We Built an Accessibility Tool. Here’s Why We Made It Free

A few months ago, our team was deep in accessibility conversations. We were running audits, writing guides, and helping clients spot gaps they didn’t even know existed.

But one thing kept coming up.

Accessibility felt… complicated. Too complicated. It was as if people were seeing a problem, and not even trying to fix it because, well, accessibility is complicated.

We’d be on calls trying to explain missing alt text, ARIA labels, landmarks and heading structures, and you could see eyes glaze over. They’d roll back into their collective skulls almost in unison. Not because people didn’t care – they did, but the language, the tools, and the frameworks all felt disconnected from the day-to-day realities of marketers and digital teams.

So we asked ourselves a simple question:

What would make this easier to see and easier to act on?

That question sparked the idea for the Pounce Accessibility Diagnostics Tool.

What We Built (and Why It’s Yours Free)

At first, we built it for ourselves, a Chrome extension our team could use during client reviews to scan a webpage, highlight accessibility issues, and export them into a simple, actionable format.

But the more we used it, the more we realised this shouldn’t be just for us.

If we were serious about making accessibility more visible, less intimidating, and easier to action, we had to put the tool in more hands.

As part of our commitment to Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we’ve made it public. And free. You simply need Chrome or a web browser compatible with Chrome extensions.

What It Does

The Pounce Accessibility Diagnostics Tool :

  • Scans any live webpage
  • Highlights issues like missing alt text, ARIA labels, landmarks and roles
  • Exports findings as a CSV so a team can take action
  • Toggles visibility by issue type so you can learn as you go

It’s built for marketers, designers, developers and anyone who gives a damn about making the web better. Which should be all of us.

Why This Matters

Too often, accessibility gets buried. In the backlog. In the redesign. In the “we’ll fix it later.”

But every inaccessible experience is a missed connection. A customer left out. A conversion that failed to convert. A brand impression that never landed.

And the worst part? Most of the issues are fixable. Often in minutes.

This tool won’t replace a full audit, but it gives you a place to start. And sometimes, that’s all people need.

What We Hope You’ll Do

If the tool helps you or your team, we’d love for you to:

  1. Leave a quick review in the Chrome store
  2. Share it with someone working on a new website
  3. Tell us what’s working (and what’s not) because we’re still building it out. This is version one, and we can always improve it for version two.

This isn’t a launch. It’s an invitation. Let’s make accessibility part of how we build, not an afterthought.
